Donovan Overshadows a Strong Debut

Most soccer fans are still wondering why (after several years of positive accomplishments) the USA went into the last world cup with such a negative approach? Did the coach have a life altering event or maybe it was someone on his staff that convinced him to go negative? Listening to Bruce Arena's acerbic TV commentary makes me wonder even more. After the Ecuador game, he said Landon Donovan can make a coach look good. But why wasn't Landon performing for Bruce? Hadn't he gone 18 months without scoring or making Bruce look good? Was negativism involved there as well? This would make an interesting article.
