Clinton and the Boardrooms

New York Sun's perceptive editorial "Clinton and the Boardrooms" calls attention to the practice of politicians, such as the Clintons, of taking contrasting positions when it suits their convenience. A New York Times article of April 12, 2006 provided another example of how politicians function, particularly the Clintons. Consider the following excerpt:

Finally, in November, Mrs. Clinton pulled President Bush aside during the opening of her husband's presidential library in Arkansas to press Corning's case. "She explained the issue and she asked the president to be personally involved," the person said.

Mr. Bush told her he would look into the matter, aides to Mrs. Clinton said. The United States trade representative's office and the Department of Commerce also pressed the Chinese to lift the tariff. By December, the Chinese government had reversed its decision and lifted the duty. Corning officials credited Mrs. Clinton's work with making a difference.

The company and its employees contributed $137,000 from the time she was elected in 2000 through the end of 2005.

Thus, when a Clinton holds a press conference and "demands" that George W. Bush treat New York fairly in distribution of Home Security funding, one need not necessarily expect a response. But if a Clinton seriously wants something from a Bush, they make the request personally and get results because it is unlikely that George W. Bush would have won Florida and be President without the subtle aid of President William Clinton. During the run-up to the 2000 election, President Clinton previously considered a staunch foe of Fidel Castro, dramatically staged the violent snatch of little Elia from his Miami relatives and then sent the scared little boy back to Castro's Cuba..

Moreover, there are numerous other examples of the close relationship between the two families that have dominated US life for nearly 20 years and may for years to come. Consider the failure of the allegedly Democratic Department of Justice to intervene in the "thievery" alleged by Albert Gore supporters that took place during the 2000 Florida election. This was matched by the new Republican Department of Justice looking the other way at the dubious Democratic pardons or indeed any of the questionable contracts and sale of favors that took place during late 2000.

Furthermore, the Clinton administration retained favored patronage employees of George H. W. Bush, notably the notorious Linda Tripp. Ms. Tripp was, "suitably" placed in the Department of Defense where she formed a "friendship" with the equally problematically qualified Democratic jobholder Monica Lewinsky. This may at least partly explain why troops in Iraq were improperly equipped lacking for example body armor with consequent otherwise avoidable casualties... Similarly, George W. Bush continued on-the-job, former Democratic Party state legislator and Manhattan West Side district leader veteran Franz S.J. Leichter, one of New York's first alleged "liberals" and/or "reformers" to endorse Clinton in 1992,

Also, the Democratic administration that took office in 1993 awarded millions of dollars in government contracts for work formerly done by the U.S. Army engineers to Halliburton, after the appointment of Bush family retainer Dick Cheney, l despite his lack of engineering credentials, to the firm's top job. Such examples, explain Bush's being invited to the opening of the Clinton library and not only his acceptance, but willingness help fulfill "Pay to Play" arrangements with Corning for Senator Clinton. The President will likely smile the next time the Senator with tongue-in-cheek denounces Bush domestic and foreign policies.
