The New Blood Libel

I am a Zionist, a Jew and a strong supporter of Israel, but I believe your charge of blood libel against Mr. Kristof is unjust and that reckless charges such as these hurt Israel's cause. As best I can tell, you do not dispute Kristof's statistics, but fault him for not including the number of Israelis killed in the Lebanon war. However, he also omitted, since they were irrelevant to his point, the number of Lebanese killed in that war. On the other hand, you sought to include the Israeli victims of that war while omitting the Lebanese victims. It is, therefore, your use of statistics, not Kristof's, that is the disingenuous one. A libel is a lie. Someone does not commit the blood libel by telling the truth. If you believe, as I do, that the fact of Israel's greater lethality is not the whole story and does not discredit its cause, then make your case and leave the smears out of it. And by the way, you are also disingenuous in disclaiming any accusation of anti-Semitism. As you well know, there can be no more anti-Semitic speech act than flinging the blood libel at Jews or the Jewish state, which you most assuredly do accuse Kristof of .
