Dear Mr.Kirsch, This is a greeting from snowy Switzerland. I loved your articleabout one of my favourite -Americans- Louis Moreau GOTTSCHALK... I was taught his composition, THE BANJO, whilst a piano-student in Sydney Australia, and fell for the origionality and charm of this music.. Finding more music of Gottschalk's in Sydney, was difficult. But on a subsequent visit to the U.S, I had no trouble at all, and bought as many pieces as I could find. Then I discovered a splendid recording made by American pianiste, IVAN DAVIS. it is called, GREAT GALLOPING GOTTSCHALK, and I was 'hooked' even more. I have since met Professor Davis of Miami University, and, whilst the music of Liszt, Chopin, and Mozart are dear to him, Mr L.M.G, still 'holds' a special place in his repetroire.. Keep up the good work Mr.Kirsch, you are quite an accomplished writer, and, once again, congratulations on such a fine article. Sincerely, Chester Carone. p.s. Do you play yourself..
