New Brooklyn School To Offer Middle East Studies

Submitted by Jennifer Bacon, Mar 12, 2007 22:01

As a mother of a 3rd grader at PS282 in Brooklyn, the new site of the Khalil Gibran school, I strongly disagree with the decision of the board of education to house this New Visions school within our school. Neither the school community, nor the PTA of the school were invited to participate in any of the planning or initiial stages of this decision. It was handed to us tonight as a done deal and we (the screaming and crying parents who attended) are shocked and saddened at the absolute arrogance of these people to come in and take over. When I asked the president of New Visions if he had looked at the school's existing population, his repsonse was that he hadn't, but he had looked closely at the building's capacity! Everyone is entitled to their own narrow vision of education and I hope they find a place to house theirs, but not if it requires taking away my son's art, music or library or the right to a broad and complex public education!

please respond and please help us stop this from happening.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Bacon
