Gonzales Said To Stonewall a GOP Query

Submitted by Seadragon, Mar 12, 2007 15:20

Nine congressmen have complained to Gonzales about the abuses in Durham (where police, judges, and prosecutor are all seemingly engaged in helping a frame-up, abetted by racism, gender and class prejudice--i.e., Scottsboro redux, with only the colors switched). They can't get the time of day from the DOJ.
And no FBI will head for Durham (maybe they're all too busy checking out pseudo hate crime allegations against Palestinians at nearby Guilford college; but they don't seem to to worry about the New Black Panther party making death threats against defendants inside a courtroom).
And Gonzales likewise remained silent when off-duty drunken white cops working for Nifong beat up a black cook and insult him with racial epithets ("Rodney King South").
In short, Gonzales won't answer the congressmen and has no interest in what happens with civil rights in Durham.
His most enduring legacy for many of us will be that we now know the DOJ and the FBI aren't what we were taught they were when we were kids--guardians of our constitutional liberties. If you're on the wrong
side of the PC line, you rights don't extend off the paper they're written on.
