Mr. Wilson said that the CIA sent him after the Office of the Vice President asked them to look into the (forged) documents. He never said Mr. Cheney personally asked him to go. Mrs. Wilson was involved in nuclear non-proliferation in the Middle East. Are we to believe that an operative in nuclear non-proliferation in the Middle East and the contacts she had made during her 20-year career is worth sacrifing so that Cheney can try to sell the lame argument that Mr. Wilson was not credible because his wife had finagled a junket for him to Niger, that garden spot of the vacation world? And Mr. Cheney with his forged documents from shady Italian operatives, knew more than the entire intelligence community? Give me a break! This "mellifluous gasbag" was trying to inform the people paying for Cheney's debacle of a war that one of the premises for that war was untrue and everybody had told Cheney so. So Cheney got Rove, Armitage, Card and Libby to smear Wilson. Please don't try to make us all feel bad for poor Scooter, who was neck-deep in the entire mass deception and was caught lying under oath and impeding an investigation. Mr. Cheney could have testified at the trial to help get poor Scooter off the hook. Guess he just didn't have the stomach for a fight.
