Very interesting report. I wonder if the new books also deal with the strange episode, as documented at the House of the Wannsee Conference (where the "Final Solution" was planned), in which Riefenstahl supposedly witnessed a mass execution of civilians. There is an odd photo of her in this situation, included in the exhibition at the memorial.

As for use of the term "woman documentary filmmaker," I object on grammatical grounds. You are using it here as an adjective. I understand why you need an adjective here, but if you must, then you should use the word female. Woman athlete? Woman author? Woman filmmaker? Doesn't it sound strange to you? For example, one could say "male athlete, " or "male author" - and never "man athlete" etc...
