Rousing the Slumberers

Dear Mr. Steyn--

The truth seems so easy to relay; yet so many of us gravitate toward lies and the numerous liars who spread them through the wind...

Your brilliance never ceases to astound me, as I take this break from my editing work to communicate this determination. We have, pursuant to your description, lost our "Americanism" since President Garfield's time--in that our former selves united intellectually, economically, and psychologically--to AID OUR LEADER IN TIME OF NEED.

Even through the first half of the 20th century--we retained our "Americanism"--but such began to disintegrate toward selfish concerns, where government's main responsibility, if would seem, is to do for ME...You and others cannot be as important, and, ergo, certainly not the life of the President of the United States.

Cordially,

Nancy Joyce Jancourtz.
