While I don't know what was going on inside Mayor Bloomberg's head, there is no question that parking ticket revenue is a huge money maker for NYC. The city earns well over $500 million each year from parking ticket revenue alone - this does not count towing fines or dismissed parking tickets, only what NYC collects. It's hard to belive that this didn't play a factor in the Mayor's decision not to suspend street cleaning rules in situations like the other day's storm. I for one am glad that people took the mayor to task and made an issue of this, backing him into a political corner where he felt he had to change his stance. I do not believe that he would have made this change if not for the pressure that all of us and the media put on him.
