The Telltale Gift

Ever since I saw the Sex in the City episode where Carry's pricey shoes were stolen at her Mommy friend's party (Carry was forced take her shoes off in the apartment for the "sanitary health" of Mommy friend's kids) and Carry had to register to get her Mommy friend to pay for said shoes..... I vowed never ever ever to have a baby shower or to fill out one of those absurdly narcisistic registries. Makes me think why not register for everything? And why register when you are having a baby? My sister will be graduating with a PHD soon with a specialty in an absurdly difficult science. Why not register for her graduation party? My best friend is single, works in an extremely underpaid field working with special needs children, why shouldn't she register because she is fabulous? Isn't there a hint of sexism with the registry culture? I am now 4 months pregnant and I am sticking to my guns. I can't wait to introduce my friends and family to my little sprout once he or she is born. But I am not about to register for a diaper bucket! The baby registry and baby shower is one American tradition I can do without.
