Income Inequality's Reality

Submitted by george, Feb 17, 2007 14:58

My son started work as an analyst on Wall Street. He will make 6 figures this year. But wait. He works over 100 hrs. a week. No life and very little sleep. His decision. He graduated from Stanford with a 4 point and large debts. A public school teacher in the nyc school system will earn almost twice per hour as my son this year. Since the teacher probably went to a state school, very few debts. Also, the teacher gets tenure, my son can be fired and have to clean out his desk at any time. My son will also be taxed at a much higher rate. True if my son survives the next five years he will be earning significantly more. But he's taking a serious risk and giving up years of his life and working very, very hard. He also has abilities few of us have. So how can you possibly compare the two workers? Or is this simply about punishing ambition. If that's it, then we will all become much poorer.
