I live in California. I'm of American Indian heritage. I will be 62 in April.My wife will be 60 her next birthday. I have been permanently disabled since May of 1985, due to a severe injury while working at Southern Pacific R.R. I'm on Medicare and also Blue Cross Senior Secure, a H.M.O. My payments are $93.50 per month for my coverage.For my wife we have, Blue Cross California Care. It, like my policy,pays for minimal care.Her policy cost $442.00 per month. Both o our policies total $535.00. That is about 35% of our total income for minimal care insurance. I wrote this to my Federal Representative, the honorable, Kevin McCarthy, 22 district Kern County, Ca. I didn't receive any response. That was Jan. 22 2007. I called his office and it was confirmed they received the letter,and would process it.I asked in the letter to, Representative McCarthy, if 35% of ones total income was the national average for minimal coverage for American citizens ? I asked, if it's not,is there any relief for disabled people like us ? I mentioned that cases like ours should be stated in written form to the enactors of law during these talks on insurance within the House of Representatives. But I don't expect any response. How do you folks, in the press feel on this topic? Gorden Jones
