Opportunity for Turks and Kurds

Mr Holbrooke's article is interesting but does he really believe Turkey will ever support any real autonomy on the part of the Kurdish nation? As the US has supported Israel so it needs to support a free Kurdistan. One has only to consider the inability of Turkey to accept the Armenian genocide to understand the present intransigent Turkey would ever tolerate a free Kurdistan - in fact they have stated as much.

Turkish Kurdish asylum seekers seem to suggest the only reason matters appear slightly better is to facilitate Turkey joining the EU and that the reality is it is only cosmetic!

Unfortunately the interests of the US (eg impelling Turkey into the EU agains the interests of the EU) do not give hope of a positive role of the US in the future! eg how many Turkish troops on the ground are there in Iraq or Afghanistan? (although Turkey is a member of NATO!)
