Although not a member of a union, I realize the need for them. Everyone who works at a craft or a trade benefits from unions. The union members "set" the scales for pay and benefits, then the rest of us benefit, even if indirectly,because of the ripple effect caused by the unions' scale.
I think the biggest problem with the unions today is, they themselves have become big business, just exactly the thing they are always preaching against. Big union leadership needs to get their house in order, and get back to working for the rank and file. Should they accomplish this task, they may find more people who are willing to join so they can have a collective voice that can be heard.
Unions? Yes we need them. I shudder to think how everyday working people will be treated without the threat of getting organized. I will never vote to unionize untill big unions once again take into consideration the purpose of their existance.
