Global Warming Turns Ugly

Submitted by Stephen W. Robertson, Feb 12, 2007 10:08

I do not know whether man is responsible for the global warming issue. However, I would like to hear from both sides before heading down another path that may be wrong. For example, as I recall, President George Bush had a 90% approval rating before entering into the Iraqi invasion. The reason for the invasion was for Weapons of Mass Destruction and Support of Terrorist. At that time, anyone that questioned the reasons were not very popular and many kept quite when those that questioned were attacked. Now, after our experience and knowledge of information used to justify the invasion, the majority of people in the United States would have preferred more caution and other action. Therefore, I do not plan on joining the parade of individuals that will support actions that could seriously damage the United States economy until I hear more from the naysayers to man's involvment in Global Warming. They may be right they may be wrong but no matter what I do not want them intimidated into silence.

As to the information that was used to support the position that man is mostly responsible (90% United Nations estimate----hmm the 90% number comes up again). It may be right, it may be wrong, but if we base our actions on it, I want a close examination of it's validity. I think this is important because of first hand expierence with "facts" that our not challenged because their bases was never examined. For example, Medicare Reform is touted by Republicans and others because of a decade plus old report that "first dollar coverage" has led to overuse of the medical system by persons receiving medicare benefits. (Hmmm interesting---it is man's fault again) This is explained by stating that to allow a person to have Medigap Insurance and Medicare a person has no financial restraints when seeking medical attention whether it is necessary or not. The inference is that huge dollar savings are availabe if for example Medigap insurance is prohibited. There are several things that should be considered and perhaps the report be reviewed as to the validity of its conclusions. 1. Medigap policyholders pay actual cash for the protection and 2. Perhaps the most important, Medicare pays only for "Medically necessary" health care. Do we really want to remove access to persons from "Medically necessary" health care or is this just a red herring to eliminate cost.

Finally, indeed money does influence almost every aspect of mankind's life. However, that does not make it evil. Nevertheless, I agree, follow the funding of all reports not just the ones that you do not agree . One has to examine the reports that are used to support one's own postion.
