One thing that has me puzzled about Mr. Hevesi's pension is how he can collect it while he still in active in state service and could potentially be adding to his already fat pension.. I had been working for NY State and was selected to be a city manager in one of our small cities but was eligible to to start my NY pension, but was told that I could not collect a state pension while I was working for the municipality. I was told that while certain jobs apparently get waivers--many of them police related with "unique special skills"--but apparently a city manager is not one of them. My three years as city manager counted for my NY State pension as the municipal pension plan is part of the unfied system. Do elected officials get a waiver which enable them to collect a pension while still in the system? Or is this a function of Tier 1 vs Tier iV which I am or some other arcane section of the pension law?.
