Who Done It? Mystery Bookstore To Vanish
in response to reader comment: A place to find what you weren't looking for...

I've lived in the neighborhood for twenty years and truly treasured this place. After we lost Shakespeare on Broadway and Endicott on Columbus, Ivy's seemed to be a hopeful last stand, and I always tried to shop there first before trekking to Strand or as a last resort going to one of the large (headache inducing!) chains. From the high quality and thoughtfully displayed books to the lovely and often quirky cards and notebooks, this was always my first stop when looking for a unique gift (or when treating myself). I can't express how saddened I am that truly worthy independent merchants are finding it so difficult to make a living on the Upper West Side. And the character of our neighborhood just contineus to get blander and blander. It is all so hearbreaking to me.
