City Residents Battle ‘Cookie Cutter' Street Fairs

Submitted by Tom Burrows, Feb 2, 2007 13:33

Community run street fairs are the best but since the addition of more and more requirements the need for volunteer time has grown and become quite burdensome. However, the fairs put together by the private promoters using a non-profits name have certainly given street fairs a bad name with the same tube socks, bed spreads etc. Also, they seem to proliferate more on commercial streets than residential blocks and have an impact on the storeowners who are paying rent and sales tax in their stores.

The best neighborhood run Street Fair is still the Bedford Barrow Commerce Olde Village Fair in May. More neighborhoods should put together fairs like this committed and hard working group[
