Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed a "light sock" chandelier using Swarovski crystals for an exhibit during the Design Miami fair (Charles Renfro, Ric Scofidio, and Liz Diller stand in front of it with Nadia Swarovski, who's waering Pucci leggings, in the photo above). The project shows their interest in light, which we'll see in their new design for Lincoln Center's external facades.
Swarovski was one of the first luxury brands to hope on the Miami art show train... and they've stuck to their concept, bringing in designers to make fun chandeliers that go on exhibit at the fair. My favorite was one from 2005. It had a rotating mirrored platform underneath it, which spectators were supposed to lay down on. You could see all lots of different colored patterns when looking at it from above.
The sock is fun because it's tactile, as Adam Lindemann demonstrates in the picture below. And it might just wind up in a home near you.
