Tom Wolfe was among the first into the "First Choice" preview of the fair (the official opening day is tomorrow, but there are entry levels all day long today, until 9 p.m.).
Marie-Josee Kravis looked at work at PaceWildenstein, Agnes Gund hit James Cohan and Fischer. Danielle Ganek was spotted talking to Larry Gagosian outside his booth. "Adam's Angels" -- some very elegant women indeed -- walked around with the Whitney Museum's director, Adam Weinberg. Art adviser Kim Hierston had her earphones in to talk on her cell phone. The Guggenheim's president, Bill Mack, paused on a bench to make a phone call before resuming his tour.
The Berlin gallery neuger Riemschneider had one of the most colorful and made-over booths, with a wood floor with mirrored insets. Yes, you could walk on it. There were also chocolate santas, a floor of peacock feathers, a cart of fruit, etc, etc, etc.
See photos from the first hour of the fair here. And feel free to check out my rough and live updates on sightings, etc. at www.twitter.com/amandagordon -- I am sending them in by sending texts on my BlackBerry, while carrying my camera and notepad.
