Sex and the Wrong City

A few hours ago, the screams could be heard throughout Chinatown in central London as more than 1,000 people prepared to take their seats at the world premiere of "Sex and the City: The Movie." Brits love the series just as much as Americans — who here drank cosmos or went for cocktails at all before "SATC"? And yes — London has become something of a fashion hot spot recently. Still, this doesn't quite justify the decision to host so pantingly awaited a premiere on this side of the pond. What we all love about "SATC" is just how New York it is. It is pure New York, in fact, both implicitly and explicitly. So what on earth is it doing here?
While this question is being debated (do we buy New Line's assertion that a London premiere is more globally accessible?), the fashion parade took off without a hitch and initial reports of the girls' outfits have been positive. Even if the film is no good — apparently it was still being edited three weeks ago — at least Sarah Jessica Parker's pale green Alexander McQueen dress and Philip Treacy hat; Cynthia Nixon's Calvin Klein slit-thigh gown; Kim Cattrall's Vivienne Westwood dress, and Kristin Davis's vintage flapper dress had the desired effect on the ravenous crowds tonight.
