It probably happens in Manhattan all the time, but a £1,000-a-head (translated, that's a $2,000-a-head) tasting menu designed for bonus season has caused quite a splash in London. Vivat Bacchus, in the city's financial district, offers seven courses of the very finest the world has to offer.
On the menu: royal sevruga caviar with buckwheat blinis and crème fraîche; fresh Bahama rock lobster linguini flavored with 40-year-old armagnac; hand-sliced Joselito Gran Reserve ham; grilled wagyu fillet steak with red onion marmalade, seared goose foie gras Pont Neuf, and sautéed green beans; cheese board of 15 varieties; quince jelly with fruit and biscuits, and Valrhona chocolate soufflé with clotted cream. It goes without saying that the finest wines — including a Château Lafite — come with. Co-owner Neleen Strauss said she and the chef, Robert Staegemann, put all of their "non-vegetarian" fantasies on the menu. She added that London is likely the only city in the world that can support such a menu because of its proximity to Europe, where many of the essential ingredients come from.
