Departing from her pre-released text, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida just mentioned her Judaism and Senator Obama's views on Israel as she seconded Mr. Obama's nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
"As an American Jew and a strong supporter of Israel, I know there's only one candidate who represents all of our values: an unwavering commitment to the security of Israel and a progressive agenda for America. And that candidate is Barack Obama," Ms. Wasserman Schultz said.
Ms. Wasserman Schultz became a fixture of sorts on cable television earlier this year when she was one of Senator Clinton's most ardent supporters during the prolonged primary fight and, in particular, the battle over how to deal with the vote Florida held earlier than permitted under Democratic Party rules.
