At former senator David Boren's forum on bipartisanship and political independence at the University of Oklahoma there is chatter galore about a possible presidential bid by Mayor Bloomberg.
Dean Barkley, a former senator who ran the campaigns of independent Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura and an independent candidate for governor of Texas, Kinky Friedman, and traveled from Minnesota this morning to see Mr. Bloomberg speak at the forum, said he thinks the mayor could win the presidency if he ran. He said there is a voting block in America that doesn't like what is happening in American politics and is there for the taking by the right candidate.
"But we'd have to see Michael in action," he said.
"Can he motivate? Is he a motivational kind of guy on the stump? How will he sell in the rest of the country? Those are all unanswered questions, but I'd like to see him try. But I think it can be done, yeah. I wouldn't be here if I didn't think he couldn't do it," Mr. Barkley said.
