The frigid Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primaries are nearly upon us, but Senator Clinton is planning to spend a bit of time next month fund-raising in the warmer climes of California.
One gathering, in San Francisco on December 11, will be a reprise performance by a billionaire investor, Warren Buffett, who headlined a June fund-raiser for Mrs. Clinton in New York that raised a reported $1 million. Tickets to see Mrs. Clinton and the Oracle of Omaha together again start at a modest (for a Clinton fund-raiser) $100 for students and those under 30, and $250 for everyone else.
An event on the previous night in Los Angeles, features a debate-watching party followed by an in-person, post-debate appearance by Mrs. Clinton. Tickets are $250, or $1000 with unspecified VIP privileges. The L.A. gathering is set to take place at Social Hollywood, a restaurant-bar-event complex in the former Hollywood Athletic Club on Sunset Boulevard.
The SoCal event might be a bust, though, if the Democratic debate in Los Angeles on December 10 never happens. CBS News is sponsoring the debate and the network's newswriters, who have authorized a strike, may have called one by that point. Many of the presidential hopefuls have said they'll refuse to cross picket lines to attend the debate.
A local investor who is one of President Clinton's longtime friends, Ron Burkle, is among the hosts for the L.A. bash. The lead hosts are a public relations specialist who handled the recent Live Earth concerts, Kristina Schake, and a top executive with a non-profit health-care foundation, B. Kathlyn Mead of the California Endowment.
Hosts for the Warren Buffett event include Mrs. Clinton's interior designer, Kaki Hockersmith, and the head of a direct marketing firm with close ties to the Clintons, Vinod Gupta of InfoUSA.
