Forty-six minutes. That's how long it took for the Clinton
campaign to correct an assertion that Senator Clinton had served "on the Armed
Services Committee for close to seven years," according to the time stamp of
two e-mails the campaign sent.
For the record, Mrs. Clinton became a member of
the committee in 2003, which gives her between four and five years tenure on the panel.
The misstatement came in a press release titled "Response
from Clinton Campaign on Senator Obama's Foreign Policy Forum Today" and
received at 3:49 p.m. The corrected version, received at 4:35 p.m., states "Senator Clinton, who has traveled
to 82 countries as a representative of the United States and serves on the
Armed Services Committee, is ready to lead the nation."
Even accounting for the
later date, that's still two years more than Mr. Obama's been in the Senate.
