Remember the ARG poll that showed a ridiculously high number for Mitt Romney? Well, Rasmussen has some quite different numbers, probably more in line with reality.
Meanwhile, ARG head Dick Bennett defends his poll, insisting that Mr. Romney's TV advertising is responsible for the huge bump.
My take: No doubt Mr. Romney's TV advertising could (and, really, should) be producing a bump down in South Carolina. We've seen it before in Iowa and New Hampshire. But the bump showing up in this poll is way too big; and the drop-off in Fred Thompson support is likewise ludicrously large. Maybe this ARG number pans out. More likely, Mr. Romney is moving from single digits to the teens in the Palmetto state, behind Rudy Giuliani and Mr. Thompson.
