Mitt Romney's lead in New Hampshire is history. According to the latest CNN poll of the Granite State, Rudy Giuliani has pulled even with the former Massachusetts governor, with 24% of the New Hampshire Republican vote — one point shy of Mr. Romney's 25% and a statistical dead heat. The numbers are (change from July in parentheses):

Romney: 25% (-9)
Giuliani: 24% (+4)
McCain: 18% (+6)
Thompson: 13% (0)

The question, of course, is why. Mr. Giuliani went on the air with some radio ads in New Hampshire in late July, but that hardly explains it. The only plausible explanation I can see is that Mr. Giuliani's MoveOn.org gambit has worked splendidly. Of course it was all a bunch of bogus fake outrage. But it kept Mr. Giuliani in the news, and it kept him in the news on the attack against Democrats. This was supposed to be the month of Fred Thompson. Then it was supposed to be the month of the John McCain comeback. Rudy made it the month of Rudy — and that's how you play the game.

BTW: On the McCain comeback? My thoughts remain unchanged.

ALSO: In Florida, at least in the Strategic Vision poll, Mr. Giuliani maintains a substantial lead over Mr. Thompson.
