'McCain Death Watch' Death Watchby Ryan Sager
As a counterpoint to our "McCain Death Watch," I'll be running a "'McCain Death Watch' Death Watch," with counter-indicators showing John McCain's potential to survive. First up, this from Gallup's review of June polling: "Support for McCain has hovered around 20% since March, a clear change from January when he had 27% and nearly tied with Giuliani for first place. He has not faded dramatically, however." Gallup also says that Fred Thompson is solidly tied with Mr. McCain for second place. (Gallup, however, is clearly behind the curve. No one watching the dynamic of this race can doubt that Mr. Thompson is assuming second place, pushing Mr. McCain to third, and closing quickly on Rudy Giuliani for first.)
